Scrap Buster Fall Pillow

My mother's birthday is this weekend, and I decided a while ago that I really wanted to make her gift rather than buy something, but I had a hard time thinking of something to make that she would like. My mother loves bags, but she has tons of them, so I hate to give her yet another one. I started looking through the list of projects I want to try, and I came across the Scrap Buster Fall Pillow tutorial that I had bookmarked on Cluck.Cluck.Sew. It's a pretty quick project and a great way to use up all those little scraps of fabric that I always save but never know what to do with.

I love the way it turned out. The tutorial provides measurements for covering a 16" square pillow, but I changed it a little bit because my pillow was 14" square. Cutting out all of the leaves ended up going a lot quicker than I expected. The hardest part was sewing all 29 of my leaves onto the front of the pillow. It wasn't really difficult, it just took a long time. It was worth it, though. I even made a little fabric tag and sewed it onto the side.

One of the best parts about this is that it has an envelope closure on the back, so it's simple to take off and put back on.

So now I'm thinking I could make a different cover for each season. That covers me for gift ideas for Mom for a little while. The only problem I have now is that I really want one, too! I guess I'll be sewing up another one soon!

Thanks for stopping by today! If you get a chance, check out the link parties I'm joining...

Okay, so I liked your ric rac apron and decided to look around a bit and then I saw this pillow and went straight over to your "follow" button. This is adorable! I love all the colors of the leaves.

I have zero sewing talent what-so-ever but if I did I'd make one of these. This is great!

Super cute! I'm excited and nervous to try this... maybe this will be my "fall day" pillow to make on the first day of fall. That will give me a timeline and reason to make it :)
