The baby shower is this weekend, so I finished with plenty of time. I took about three weeks to make this quilt. I tend to shy away from big projects that can't be completed within a couple of hours, so I took my time with this one and worked on it little by little here and there. I do love the way it turned out.
I used my sewing machine to bind the quilt. I'm not great with a needle and thread in my hand, and it would have taken a lot of time to sew it by hand. I went very slowly and carefully with my machine, and I'm happy with how it looks.
I used white thread in the bobbin so that the stitches on the back would blend in with the backing fabric and the quilting stitches. That way I didn't have to worry about where my binding stitches were landing on the back of the quilt.
After completing my first machine quilted project, I will definitely be doing it again. I love the look of straight line machine quilting. My daughters' Sherbet Pips quilts that I'm going to start this summer are going to be just like this quilt, but I'm going to make them 10 x 10 charm squares versus 6 x 7. If you have never quilted before, I highly recommend the tutorial that I followed. It was written by Kristin over at wRIte iT DOwN. I am constantly in awe of her quilts... not only how gorgeous they are but how many she churns out!
My sister-in-law is due in June. Can't wait for the arrival of the little one who will get to snuggle in this quilt.

I love it! I made my first quilt for my son about 2 years ago and then... haven't really quilted since. I have picked up fabric and all but I tend to have craft ADD and commitment issues. But I'm going to make a quilt for our little girl. Once I decide which one to make, that is. :)
