They turned out really cute! I used Target Fast Dry Towels on Anna's recommendation. They come in a million different bright and beautiful colors, so they are perfect for this. It will be a long time before I touch terry cloth with my sewing machine again, though. What a mess.... so much so that I almost didn't make the second robe, but I'm glad I did.
The girls have worn them at the beach, at the pool, at swim lessons, on our friend's boat, at breakfast as bathrobes. They find any excuse to put them on. And if my four year old has hers on, my nineteen month old wants hers, too.
The girls have gotten a lot of use out of these robes in the last two months, and they will still fit them next summer, so I won't have to make new ones for a while (yes!).
The hood on the pink robe is lined with Kate Spain's Central Park Children's Zoo. The hood on the blue robe is lined with David Walker's Hopscotch Girls at Play.
These robes are one of my favorite sewing projects ever. Dana's pattern is easy to follow. She gives different options: short or long sleeves, ties that go all the way around or just at the sides, lined or unlined hood. I highly recommend this pattern, and apparently so would about half of blogland... have you seen all the different versions of these out there?!? Nothing beats a project that makes your kids super happy, and this one is sure to please.
I'm linking up...
These are SUPER cute :)

Adorable Gwen! I think I might need to find a toddler to sew one of these for...
ReplyDeleteThese really turned out cute! And your 'pink' daughter knows very well how to model the robe (o:
ReplyDeleteLol I know the dangers of working with terrycloth too, I tried to make washcloths once, but this is on a MUCH larger scale so I can only imagine the mess! Totally worth it though, they turned out great!
ReplyDeleteThe robes are darling. I'm so glad that they've been so well loved this summer...and will last! The hood linings are perfect choices. :) Have a great weekend.
ReplyDeleteoh those are adorable robes!
ReplyDeleteSo super cute! And the fact that they love them makes all the "fluff" worth it, right? ;) Way to go mom!!

ReplyDeleteWonderful job Gwen, the girls look so cute in their robes.
ReplyDeletei didn, t know that you call "that" robes, wich means dress in French.
ReplyDeletethey look cute and confortable, but if you had problems with that kind of fabric I can´t imagine the mess I would do...
They are so gorgeous Gwen! I can see why this is one of your favourite projects; it's always a bonus when the person you are making it for never wants to take it off. :)
ReplyDeleteI made one of these a few weeks ago, and was so pleased with how it turned out. So cute. Yours are great, and it sure looks like your children love them!
ReplyDeletelike it..you know what i like the most in this post?the pic in which girly is sucking fingers :)
ReplyDeletei was also having this habit in childhood..hahaha
following you with love
You know what I started using by accident and have LOVED keeping by my machine- one of those compressed air in a can things that you buy for your computer. It is amazing at getting all the lint and tiny thread off your machine and table... onto the floor then you can just sweep it up! I have also used it to get the link of fabric ... mine has lasted a while and it was only $5...
ReplyDeleteGwen these are so great!! I love the color choices and the lining fabric is too cute! Great job!
