{Center fabric from Boo to You by My Mind's Eye for Riley Blake Designs} |
Isn't that fabric super cute? I added some strips of orange with gray pearl bracelets around the center and then gray around the outer edges. I even added piping. This is only my second time using piping and my first time on a pillow. It didn't turn out perfect, but it's not bad for my first try...
I wish I'd gone with a thicker cord so it would stand out more. Next time I'll know better. I used more of the Riley Blake fabric on the back, with a simple envelope closure...
I tried something else new on this pillow... I used one of the decorative stitches on my sewing machine for the first time. I really like the way it turned out...
One more new thing... I made a label out of twill tape and sewed it on the back of the pillow. I usually use the method that I shared in my sewing label tutorial, but I thought I'd try something new. I'm kinda liking it :)
I figured this pillow would take me a couple of hours tops, but it took more like four. I don't know why I'm so slow. I wish I could bust out two or three projects in one sitting. I suppose that's why I tend to shy away from the really big projects... they take me forever! Is anyone else a super-slow sewist, or am I the only one?
I'm linking up...

I looooove this fabric!, your pillow it´s great and very funny!
Well, Gwen, there are some beautiful details in this pillow, like the stitch you used for the zipper and the 'ribbon' (don't know how you call it) around the sides. That's why it takes longer than you might wish. So no, I don't think you're slow. You're into beautiful detail!
THAT might be the most adorable Halloween fabric I've ever seen. I think you did a lovely job! And, personally, kind of love the smaller piping. It takes me forever to do the smallest projects too, don't feel bad. s'Gorgeous!
Oh gosh, I LOVE that center fabric! :) So adorable! Thanks for linking up to {Sew} Modern Monday and have a great week!
Very cute pillow! Excellent fabric choices, and no you aren't the only slow one! I'm amazed when I see people cranking out ten projects in the time it takes me to get started on one!
I love that fabric. It makes such a cute Halloween pillow.
I am a super slow sewist too! I have found through experience that if I try to rush through a project, the end result just doesn't look as good as I would like. So I just slow down and take my time and enjoy the process!
Adorable!
Cute cute cute. Love the piping and the label!
So how did you print on the twill tape? I love that!
Your pillow is so fun. That is one of my favorite Halloween lines.
The pillow turned out so well. I struggle with piping too. I did learn from Katy Dill to notch it around corners, which helped me a lot. :)
So cute! I love that fabric :)
I love LOVE the fabric! It is adorable and I love that stitch you used. It looks beautiful!
your pillow is so great Gwen! nice to be able to put that sweet fabric to good use!
it would have taken me just as long to make the pillow... i, too, am a slow sewist. i figure it's because i never get on a sewing roll, you know? I'm always doing other crafts too. but, honestly, i'm good with that. that way i'm never bored. :)
love your pillow, and congrats on trying so many new-to-you things :) and yes, I sew very. very. slow. Sometimes I feel like the slowest sewer on the planet :D
That's an adorable pillow -- worth the hours you put into it for sure. I'm slow behind the machine, too. Actually, I'm slowest when cutting. Thank goodness for precuts!
that is adorable! well worth the wait! xoxoxo
Hi Gwen..your cushion is beautifully made. It takes some effort to cut the pieces straight and true and sew them all together neatly, so don't beat yourself up about being a bit slow. The care you take throughout the process really shows up in the finished result. I love your tag too.
Such adorable fabrics! Great job on the pipping! It always gets tricky for me around the corner. Thanks for sharing!
I love this fabric!! Your piping looks fantastic, and you are so creative using the decorative stitching!! And so what if you are a slow sewer...it's working for you because I think everything you do looks remarkable.
That fabric is so cute. My mom and I made some cute pillows this past weekend too! I'd love it if you added them to my little Terrorific Tuesday roundup! http://swelldesigner.blogspot.com/2011/10/terrorific-tuesday-blog-hop-time_17.html
Oh my word adorable! I am just in love with it all. I hear ya on how long projects take. That definitely happens to be me too.
This is darling. I stockpiled a bit of that whole line- I just love that fabric. One day it will be a quilt! Way to go on the piping. I have lots to learn when it comes to doing that on pillows. ;)
xoxo,
Amy
